2005 Ford Explorer – Traction Control Light on, C1998: Module Calibration Not Complete

This problem can occur on any Ford vehicle with a traction control system. This generally occurs from tampering with sensors or components related to:

  1. The ABS (anti-lock brake system) Module
  2. The Instrument Cluster
  3. The Steering Position Sensor
  4. Steering Components

This is commonly removing steering components during the R&R procedure. If you have this problem do the following:

  1. Connect a scan tool to the system
  2. Start the engine
  3. Perform the ABS module calibration procedure. This procedure varies based on your scan tool. Not all scan tools have this feature.

Important: Make sure you rotate the steering wheel lock-to-lock during the recalibration procedure
